    RE:FIT Programme cuts carbon emissions from London’s public buildings

    Public buildings are a significant contributor to London’s carbon emissions – making up as much as 10 per cent of London’s total carbon footprint. The focus on retrofitting these buildings is therefore very important, especially given that 80 per cent of the buildings currently in use today will still be in use in 2050.

    The RE:FIT programme is the cornerstone of London’s public building retrofit activity. The programme is being delivered by the Greater London Authority (GLA) and promoted by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40). It is the first project to be delivered in partnership with C40.

    Paris School Retrofit Project tackles energy efficiency in public schools

    September 18, 2014 Paris

    Paris’ primary and pre-schools comprise more than a quarter of all city-owned buildings. As a result, the city's Climate Plan created the School Retrofit Project — a specific initiative aimed at tackling energy efficiency in schools. In March 2010 the City established a dedicated team tasked with retrofitting 600 schools in order to reach the target of 65GWh of energy savings per year.

    Improving Energy Efficiency of City-Owned Facilities

    Through the Guaranteed Energy Savings Act or GESA, the City of Philadelphia engaged a qualified Energy Service Company (ESCO) to determine the feasibility of energy conservation measures to be implemented in the City's "Quadplex" buildings (City Hall, Municipal Services Building, One Parkway, and the Criminal Justice Center).
