Warsaw is one of the greenest large cities in Europe, with forests, parks and arable lands covering 47 percent of its area. As to climate and energy, our city was one of the first four Polish signatories of the Covenant of Mayors, a European Commission initiative for local governments to limit GHG emissions through actions focused on improving energy efficiency and increasing share of renewable energy sources. 

Recently, Mayor of Milan Giuliano Pisapia hosted Rohit Aggarwala, Special Advisor to the C40 Chair, at Milan’s City Hall Palazzo Marino to discuss a stronger collaboration and the establishment of Milan as the regional seat of C40 in Europe. The two also discussed the measures Milan has taken toward reducing carbon emissions at a city level.

A politically complex and culturally diverse region, Europe is home to almost 10 percent of the world’s population. The global climate change challenge presents an incredible opportunity to bring more cohesion and unity of purpose to the region, which is still struggling to find its own equilibrium at the supranational level.
