Mayor Jenny Durkan of Seattle has been elected to the C40 Cities Steering Committee, the governing body providing strategic direction for the global network of 94 cities committed to addressing the climate crisis through bold action.

Mayors of C40 Cities represent over 700 million citizens and one-quarter of the global economy. They are the strongest champions of the Paris Agreement and are committed to delivering on its highest ambition – to keep global temperature rise to below 1.5 °C.

“For decades, Seattle has been a leader on climate, and in this new role, I’m committed to building on that vital legacy. As cities from around the world already facing the devastating impacts of the climate crisis, we must think not just about tomorrow, but about the next 100 years. I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate on pioneering policies that protect our environment, our economy, and our children’s futures – and to learn from my colleagues as we confront this crisis,” said Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan.

Seattle joins fellow Steering Committee cities Accra, Boston, Copenhagen, Dhaka, Dubai, Durban, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, Medellin, Milan, Nanjing, Seoul, Stockholm and Tokyo.
