Today, the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala was elected as vice chair on the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) Steering Committee, the governing body that provides strategic direction for the C40 network of mega-cities committed to taking action on climate change.
Representing the Europe region, Milan, joins Amman, Boston, Copenhagen, Hong Kong, Jakarta, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Paris Rio de Janeiro and Seoul.
Current C40 Chair and Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes congratulated Mayor Sala on his new role:
“On behalf of all C40 members, it is my great pleasure to welcome Mayor Sala as our newest C40 Vice Chair. Milan has been a leader in tackling climate change, and I look forward to working with Mayor Sala in the months ahead to make the Paris Agreement a reality in our cities.”
Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala commented on his new role:
"It is indeed a great honour to be part of the C40 Steering Committee. This election confirms at an international level the good work done by Milan and its commitment in tackling on a daily basis the important climate issues dealt with by the entire C40 network: from the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to the care for the citizens’ health. Giving our own contribution and a clear direction to the environmental actions in which the network’s large cities are engaged is both a challenge and a responsibility that I am sure Milan will know how to honour best."
C40 Chair-Elect and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo also congratulated Mayor Sala on his position:

The next convening of the C40 Steering Committee will take place at the C40 Mayors Summit, the foremost global gathering of mayors of the world’s megacities and climate change experts, in Mexico City November 30 – December 2, 2016.
