Mayor Covas will be remembered as a great mayor for the people of São Paulo, and a visionary leader in the global effort to address the climate crisis.
He was renowned for his integrity and celebrated for his effective management of the largest city in the Americas. He inspired all of those who knew him and served in his administration to devote their energies to creating a sustainable and more equitable future for every resident of São Paulo
Under Mayor Covas, São Paulo became one of the most active cities in the C40 Network, committing to our Deadline 2020 initiative to set ambitious emissions reduction targets and developing a climate action plan to deliver. His legacy will be to see those ambitions realized.
He will be sorely missed by the whole C40 family and we send our very deepest condolences to his family, all who loved him, knew him and were inspired by him.
