As Chair of C40, I’d like to offer my congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their historic victory.

As mayors of the world’s greatest cities, we welcome the incoming administration in the midst of an inflection point for our cities and our planet — a time when intensifying hurricanes, floods, and wildfires present real-time reminders of the need for immediate steps to address and solve the climate crisis.

We are ready to roll up our sleeves and work hand-in-hand with the incoming Biden-Harris team to meet this moment with the urgency it demands. We are prepared to continue and expand the hard and necessary work happening every day in our communities: accelerating local climate action, building robust and resilient infrastructure, creating good-paying green jobs, and tackling longstanding issues of racial, social, and economic injustice.

C40 looks forward to working with an Administration determined to keep climate change at the top of its domestic agenda and place it at the center of its foreign policy. For C40 cities and citizens of the world, nothing could be more exciting than a United States standing as an unquestioned leader in the global drive to combat the climate crisis. With an American president trusting science and taking the reins of this fight once again, we can kickstart the effort to reduce emissions, protect public health, and reimagine a future of clean energy, sustainability, and equity for all.
