Mayor of London’s Waste Workshop

A Toolbox for Building a Sustainable Solid Waste System

The Mayor of London and Greater London Authority, working in partnership with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and Clinton Climate Initiative, are hosting a three-day workshop exploring how to make better use of the waste we create through resource recovery and looking at the role of waste treatment and disposal methods in providing reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

This is part of London’s commitment to become a sustainable, green city, working with both national and local government to reduce the capital's CO2 emissions by 60% from 1990 levels by 2025.  Making better use of the waste we create through resource recovery has a central role to play in helping to meet this target, with carbon positive waste treatment and disposal methods contributing to providing significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

This interactive workshop, with presentations and panel discussions, will be hosted at City Hall in London from the 22 to 24 March 2010.  Across the three days, the workshop will:

  • Enable participants to exchange information on a range of policy, regulatory and technical matters concerning the sustainable management of resources and waste in relation to climate change mitigation;
  • Provide a strong network and open forum for delegates to discuss the challenges and opportunities in this area; and
  • Facilitate new partnerships between participating and affiliate C40 Cities.

We look forward to seeing you in London in March 2010.
