C40 city Oslo has been described as the Electric Vehicle (EV) capital of Europe, and with good reason. There are currently around 2,500 EVs on Oslo’s streets, and that number increases to 5,500 if the city’s urban area is included. The local government hopes to grow those numbers through innovative policy and additional infrastructure.

C40 began in 2005 as a network of 18 megacities, and has since expanded to include 63 cities around the globe. To better accommodate the varying interests and capacities of its constituent cities and future members, C40 announced guidelines this October for new membership categories, which include Megacities, Innovator Cities, and Observer Cities.

C40 today announced the addition of four new member cities from around the world—Oslo, Vancouver, Venice, and Washington, DC. All four of these new member cities have demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing climate change and will strengthen C40’s growing network of cities that are taking action locally, but having a global impact.
